All major tournaments have ended their seasons, including last week’s World Challenge of Heroes the start of the exhibition season for professional players. This week, and for only the second year, top players from both the PGA Tour and LPGA Tour are teaming up to compete in mixed two-player teams.
A star-studded roster of 16 teams has gathered at Tiburon Golf Club to battle for the $4 million purse, with $1 million split among the winners. These teams include the defending champions Lydia Ko and Jason Day; Nelly Korda and Tony Finau; AND Lexi Thompson and Rickie Fowler.
Star-studded field of PGA, LPGA stars revealed for Grant Thornton’s mixed team event
The unique event consists of three rounds with different formats. Friday’s format will be a traditional scrimmage, with each player hitting one shot, then choosing the best and hitting subsequent shots from that spot.
Saturday’s round will feature a traditional foursome, or alternate shot, format, with teammates playing the same ball and alternating who hits each shot. One team member will go on the even holes, with the other teammate playing the odd holes.
Finally, the format for Sunday’s final round will be a modified fourball, where teammates switch balls after their shots and continue through the rest of the hole.
