Ben Hogan was slightly fired at the top (axis points left of target). Couples Fred and most guys with a long drive are over the line (shaft pointing right of the target). My opinion is that you are not as talented as Hogan or Couples or can drive it 400 yards more. For most golfers, a neutral position at the top works best and can actually increase your distance and make you more accurate. Here’s how to get it.
Take each iron from your bag and fold it over your shoulder, keeping your elbows tucked in at your sides. Have a friend place an extension bar along the inside of both elbows. (You can also do this yourself after hanging the bar up.) Important: Make sure the bar sits parallel to the ground and adjust as needed.
Now, do a mock twist by turning around and then extending your arms. Again, check that the bar is parallel to the ground and not tilted or slipped. This is perfect for 90 percent of rec players. From here, you will avoid entering the very steep ball (possible religion) or too far inward (possible thrust or impact).
