I don’t hit the ball super away. A typical car carries between 225 and 235 yards. I am not shorter Hitter there, but I certainly do not have the power of some of my peers.
That being said, I’m always looking for ways to squeeze some extra yards from my drives. If I could just hit it a small Far, golf would be much easier. As we shot content in our Top 100 teacher The summit last fall, I asked for some tips from Bernie Najar in a simple way to increase the swing speed. Check below.
A quick tip to add to the swing speed
You’ve probably heard tips to get the club again “low and slow” in order to produce a proper pickup. But according to Najar, this advice is a little wrong.
“Many times, it makes it difficult to get energy into the club,” says Najar, who trained the world champion Long Drive Kyle berkshire for more than a decade. “What I want you to focus is to get energy at the club.”
After looking at me to get some shakes, Najar noticed that I was “putting” the wrists later on my back than he would like. He told me to focus on gathering the club again in the background, instead of helping to generate that faster getting.
To teach me to teach me the exact feeling, Najar stayed away from me and kept a shaft against my club to secure a resistance as I took the club again. When taking, he made me push as much as I could on that secondary shaft before pulling it, and then I brought my wrists after that.
“Many times if the club turns too low for a long time, it is being after you and getting really heavy,” he says. “By inserting that club into the air faster and (creating) a little more energy early, will help you hit the longest and narrower discs.”
After practicing this taking action several times, I noticed a significant change in my swing speed. Try yourself and I’m sure you will do it too.
