Using your time to slow down things and focus on the bases is great, especially when you are trying to make a shaky change. If you can’t do something slowly, there is no way to be able to do it at full speed, so don’t be shy to get things slowly when practicing.
However, this does not mean that there is no benefit from increasing things. When you are out of course, you will sometimes have to go really after one, so having that swing in your arsenal is essential.
