He said: “For me, Honda is my choice going into 2027. I mean, you’ve just seen the steps they’ve taken in the last two years, 18 months, and even more so this year.

“And you feel they’re only going in one direction. And as you say, they’ve got the financing to back it up.”

Then asked if they have a line-up of riders capable of giving the Asaka giants a title, the MotoGP expert said: “I don’t think so at the moment.

But I know for a fact that you want to go and hunt one of them. I will be shocked if one of Fabio Quatararo, Pedro Costa or Jorge Martin is not at Honda for 2027.

“That’s their big goal, to get a world-class championship-worthy rider to try and fight for their championship.”

Honda are keen to bring Marc Marquez back into the fold for 2027.

Considering Marquez’s astronomical success during his 11-year stint with the factory Honda team, a return to Asaka would be a fitting way to end his career in the premier class.

The Spaniard has won a total of 59 races, secured 64 pole positions and scored 101 podiums in the famous Repsol brand overalls, including six world championships.

Marquez is reportedly open to returning to HondaBut before signing his name on the dotted line, he has some conditions.

The main reason for going back to the old team and not going back is the competitiveness of the Honda bike.

It’s clear that Marquez is a keen winner, so if they give him the caliber of title-winning bike he’ll be more than happy to reunite with his former team-mates.

According to Appleyard, Honda’s financial power is another big reason With the pull of the Japanese builder.
