Hodgkinson eyes relay after 400m PB

The Olympic champion continued his good form with the fastest ever 400m and now bids for a double at the World Indoor Championships.

Keeley Hodgkinson’s torrid start to 2026 continued on Sunday afternoon (March 1) when she recorded her fastest 400m at Glasgow’s Emirates Arena in 51.49, lowering her previous indoor PB of 52.42, also .61 faster than her 51.

It was the latest in a string of fine performances from the Olympic champion, whose first outing this year saw her set a British indoor 800m record of 1:56.33, then beat the long-standing world record in 1:54.87 in Leeuwin on February 19.

Her preparations for what will be her first appearance at the indoor world championships appear to be going to plan, so much so that AW understands Hodgkinson wants to be part of the British 4x400m team in Torun, despite the relay final coming just 50 minutes after the women’s 800m final, with the main focus on the final day of competition in Poland.

Hodgkinson’s M11 Track Club team-mate Georgia Hunter Bell also competed in the invitational races on the Scottish Athletics Combined Championships schedule.

Running his first indoor 800m since the 2015 BUCS Championships, the world silver medalist amazingly destroyed his previous best of 2:07.12 to win in 1:57.80.
