Brian Norman Sr. says he doesn’t believe Richardson Hitchins is serious about wanting to fight the winner of his son’s fight with Devin Haney on Nov. 22. He believes Hitchins is only talking to keep himself relevant because he has no fights after his eighth round TKO victory over George Kambosos Jr. on June 14, 2025.
Matias, Russell & Keyshawn are waiting
Norman Sr. points out that the champions called out at 140 Hitchins, but he doesn’t try to fight any of them. It’s not just the champions. The contenders also called him out, and he showed no interest in fighting.

Hitchins (20-0, 8 KO’s) commented on social media this week that he would like the Haney vs. Norman Jr. winner wanted. He sounded serious as he has no options for high paying fights now that he has opted not to re-sign with Matchroom.
“You have to think about Gary Antuanne Russell calling him out, and Matias calling him out. Richardson Hitchins is not going to respond to any fight he can actually make,” Brian Norman Sr. said. Free agency without fights
You can’t rule out the possibility that Hitchins is serious about going against the winner of the Haney vs. Norman Jr. fight too. With Turki Alalshikh showing no interest in placing Richardson in his Riyadh season events following the public announcement of his free agency following his win over Kambosos Jr. on June 14, the fight against the winner of the Haney-Norman Jr. fight could be his only chance to fight at one of Turki’s events.
Saudi stage slipping away
If this is Hitchins’ only way to get a taste of some of the Saudi money, it makes sense that he would put his neck on the line against whoever emerges victorious in the Devin vs. Brian Norman Jr. Even if Hitchins is blown apart financially, it will be worth it. He will still have the safety net of his IBF 140-lb title to return to.
As Hitchins would move up to 147 to challenge for the WBO welterweight title against the winner of the November 22nd showdown, this is a risk-free situation for him. He is paid millions for the opportunity, and can cried his way to the bank if he is beaten. Best of all, Hitchinns will still have his IBF light welterweight belt.
“Richardson Hitchins is not going to fight anybody. You’re going to talk about fighting Devin Haney and the winner of this. The whole division you’re in has people calling you out. You haven’t responded to any of them,” Norman Sr. said.
Worryingly, Hitchins has never agreed to fight any of the sharks who called him out. Would it be asking too much of Richardson to get in the ring with Antuanne Russell, Matias or Keyshawn? What about the 23-year-old Mercado? Why not fight him?
At 28, Hitchins isn’t getting any younger, and he still hasn’t beaten anyone of note. His career-best win came against fading one-hit wonder Kambosos, who came into their fight last June with a lowly 1-3 record in his previous four games. Hitchins should have said yes to Russell, Matias or Mercado by now.
“He’s got a whole division of champions. You won’t unite. They’re willing to fight you and want to fight you. Teo and Richardson Hitchins are the worst people because they’re worried about what the fans say,” says Brian Sr.
