Ibf light welterweight champion Richardson Hitchins boasted on social media today and said he has himself as proof ‘True champion‘After selecting the opponent George Kambosos last Saturday night in the eighth round.
Hitchins’ true champion “claim
Hitchins (20-0, 8 costs) is of the opinion that his victory over former three-belt lightweight champion Kambosos (22-4, 10 COs) means that he has himself evidence as proof One of the elite fighters in the sport. This battle was an abomination that should never have taken place.
“In boxing, they said you are not a real champion until you defend your title #truechampion,” Richardson Hitchins said X.
If Kambosos beats, it’s used to determine if a fighter has reached elite level, it doesn’t say much about the sport. He was an off-and-out fighter who came into battle, with a 1-4 recordStill his victory of four years ago against Theofimo Lopez.
For Kambosos selected for a title against Hitchins, it doesn’t say much about the champion or his promoter to choose him over more deserving fighters, such as Gary Antuanne Russell and Subriel Matias. Russell beat Hitchins four times in the amateurs and called him, but was ignored by the New Yorker.
Hitchins should be forced to run the plank by fighting Russell, Matias and Ernesto Mercado in that order. If he overcomes in one piece, he can boast that he is a ‘true champion’ and has reached the elite status.
The 140 pound Gauntlet ignored
SPENDING would be good for hitchins if he beat the killers below:
- Gary Antuanne Russell
- Subriel Matias
- Kamaine ortiz
- Keyshawn Davis
- Ernesto Mercado
- Oscar Duarte
- Isaac Cruz
Most of these fighters would beat hitchins fairly easily if he actually agreed to fight against them. I don’t think he will ever fight against one of them for obvious reasons. This is the problem with fighters like Hitchins. Their promoters maneuver them to capture world titles without fighting someone of quality, and as soon as they pick up a belt, they crow over the victory and call popular fighters that they have a business.
After the victory of Hitchins over Kambosos, he exclaimed Devin Haney and Theofimo Lopez. Haney no longer fights at 140. So, if the game happened, Richardson would freeze his IBF lightweight title, while going up to 147 on a payday fight. If he does, the IBF must deprive him of his light welterweight title, as it is not fair for the contenders waiting in line for their title in the rankings.
All sanctions should have a rule that champions cannot rise in weight without giving up their titles. How can you have a sport if belt containers like Hitchins move around as they want, leaving their titles frozen and waiting for them as they return?
