Months have changed in weeks, and weeks have gone to days, and now the guard is almost over, as the undisputed super-middleweight world champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez plans to defend his crown against the unbeaten challenger Terence “Bud” Crawford.
Alvarez and Crawford are two highly competent boxers whose names were on the pound-by-pound list. This highly expected undisputed world title match will take place on Saturday evening, September 13 in Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada, at Netflix.
About two years ago, the then 36-year-old Terence Crawford said he was not interested in following a fight against Canelo Alvarez. Crawford said at the time that his age and more than multiple weight classes had to go up, the reasons why the fight did not interest him.
At that particular time when Crawford made the statement, he was already known as one of the best boxers in the world. Crawford was an unbeaten world champion for multi -division that built an impressive legacy.
Terence Crawford, a native of Omaha, Nebraska, made his professional boxing debut in March 2008 when he stopped Brian Cummings in the 1st round. After collecting 22 additional wins, Crawford was in line to fight for championship gold.
In March 2014, Crawford traveled to Glasgow, Scotland, and defeated Ricky Burns with unanimous decision. With the victory, Terence Crawford won the WBO lightweight world title.
After two successful title defense, Terence Crawford moved up, defeated Thomas Dulorme via the sixth round TKO and won the vacant WBO Junior-Welterweight World title. A year later, Crawford became a united champion when he pointed out Viktor Postol and won the vacant WBC band.
Crawford would win the 140-pound division when he stopped the WBA/IBF champion Julius Indongo in the third round. Within a two-year period, Crawford collected all four belts and deserved the distinction to be the undisputed world champion in the junior-whale weight.
After becoming undisputed, Crawford moved up, Jeff Horn stopped in the 9th round and won the WBO World Welterweight title. Crawford continued to defend his title and defeat significant opponents such as Amir Khan, Kell Brook and Shawn Porter.
Next on Crawford’s agenda, he participated in a mega fight that was underway for five years. On July 29, 2023, Terence Crawford walked into the square circle around the then uncontrolled WBA, WBC, IBF Welterweight World Champion Errol Spence Jr.
The very expected battle of the year made a quick transition to a one -sided case. Crawford hit Spence once in the second and twice in the seventh round. Crawford dominated the 9th round until the referee came in and brought the competition to a standstill.
Due to the dismantling of his competitor, Terence Crawford became an undisputed world champion of two weight. A few months after the Spence battle, Crawford was asked about a possible superfight with Canelo, and he verbally made his uninterests due to the weight factor.
After attending the Canelo vs Munguia fight and watching Canelo act directly, Crawford had a heart change. Now Terence “Bud” Crawford (41-0, 31 costs) is ready to face the biggest challenge of his career.
Terence Crawford is the most important example of a certified ring technician. He is a switch that has all the tools. With that said, the three assets that Crawford possesses that distinguish him from others are his level of timing, accuracy and ring.
Crawford switched gears with regard to the fight against Canelo, because after seeing a Canelo Fight Live, he saw a few things that made him believe he could win. After watching Canelo vs Munguia, Crawford felt that if he were in the ring, he would have used several occasions.
On Saturday night, September 13, Terence “Bud” Crawford gets his chance to take advantage of the opportunities. If Crawford is able to effectively use his skill set, control distance and box on the outside, he will defeat the face of boxing and make history by becoming an undisputed world champion of three divisions.
