Matt McCarthy was set to take what eventually became the Tennessee Volunteers victory over the Alabama Crimson Tide college football game last weekend.
But as fate would have it, McCarty earned a start at the Shriners Children’s Open last week and was unable to see one of the biggest upsets in college football this season from the school his younger sister attends.
How did he pitch last week in Vegas? He won in just his third PGA Tour start ever in the Black Desert Championship a week ago.
“I was actually supposed to go to that game, but I ended up — like I told myself if I was going to be in the top 10 (and) in Vegas. I wasn’t going,” McCarty said on this week’s episode of GOLF’s Subpar. He definitely made more than just top-10s.
“So we ended up going to Vegas”
Not a bad place to go after winning first PGA Tour winnaturally, co-hosts Colt Knost and Drew Stoltz asked McCarty what he did to celebrate his progress while in Sin City
McCarty said they wasted no time celebrating as they made the two-hour drive from Ivins, Utah to Las Vegas late Sunday night.
“Too-too-much-time-spent-in-Vegas with the boys and all,” McCarty joked. “We had some of our college mates all week and some of my guys that I grew up playing golf with as well. So it was a lot of fun and I had my girlfriend there for a few days. But yes, we did it right.”
McCarty said the games of choice were Blackjack and Bearcat.
“We got off to a couple of hot starts and then cooled off a little bit,” he said. What happens in Vegas, ultimately stays in Vegas.
