Michael Brennan was just happy to be starting a PGA Tour this week at the Bank of Utah Championship.
The former Wake Forest star won three times on the PGA Tour Americas this season to lock up his Korn Ferry Tour card for 2026. He was content to climb the professional golf ladder the normal way, but was happy to receive a sponsor’s invitation to this week’s Utah Bank Championship in Black Desert Resort.
But what started as another week for the 23-year-old tall to get PGA Tour reps it soon became something more as Brennan roared into a two-stroke lead after 54 holes. He entered Sunday just 18 holes away from becoming the eighth player since 1970 to win on the PGA Tour in three starts or fewer. This week is Brennan’s third PGA Tour start, but the first two came as an amateur. The last player to win a PGA Tour event in his first start as a pro? Jim Benepe at the 1988 Open Western.
With a life-changing victory just 18 holes away, Brennan came out on Sunday and bogeyed five of his first nine holes to extend his lead to five. Brennan held off Rico Hoey’s back nine to secure the trophy, a two-year PGA Tour exemption and the $1.08 million winner’s check.
