During Sunday’s final round 2025 Sentry and Kapalua, Will Zalatoris made a costly mistake of the rules. But not only for him.
On the 15th hole, Zalatoris and his playing partner Cam Davis misplayed each other’s balls for their par-5 third shots.
That meant both players not only had to re-hit their third shots, but a two-stroke penalty, which in one of the PGA Tour’s eight signature events, proved very costly.
“This is going to be expensive,” said NBC analyst Mark Rolfing.
Oh yes, it was Rolf.
By the time Zalatoris was done, he was in a tie for 28th, which comes with a salary of about $150,000. Had he returned those two shots, he would have been in a tie for 14th, which is a payday of around $300,000, costing him more than half his salary for the week.
Two shots for Davis would have knocked him out of a tie for 14th in the top ten, costing him nearly $275,000.
It just goes to show you that when millions of dollars are on the line, a simple mistake can cost you hundreds of thousands of dollars.
With that, below is the full payout breakdown for this week keeper. The total purse is $20 million.
