Here’s how much each player did

Scottie Scheffler, the man who has won more money than any other PGA Tour player this season, is talking about cash.

It’s a hot topic in golf, of course, and on Tuesday, before this week Championship tournamentthe tournament’s highest paying event, Scheffler he was asked this question by a journalist:

“If the Tournament came to you – you said you’d play the way the sponsors wanted. If the sponsors or the Strategic Sports Group came in and wanted to completely change things and make it a match event or under the lights, what open do you think the Tour players would be to deviate from the 72-hole stroke play? Obviously not every week, but in something like they would make a playoff and get out of the frame a lot?”

In response, Scheffler labeled it “a really insightful conversation,” and the rest of his response reflected that.

He said he hopes to be paid fairly. He said he didn’t care what he got for winning the Masters.

Here is his full response:

“Well, it’s a really deep conversation,” Scheffler began. “At the end of the day in terms of sponsors, I’d be playing a lot of the tournaments I play throughout the year if the purses were significantly less. I would pick and choose a little bit more, but if it was – if it’s the Masters, I’ll play the Masters. I want a chance to win a major championship. I don’t care what you pay me for winning the Masters. I really don’t.

“But at the end of the day in terms of a lot of those tournaments, you just want to get paid what you think would be fair. And then in terms of what the sponsors want, if you have FedEx raise the kind of money they’re raising for this event, people will show up to play.

“It’s a business after all. It’s part of the game. This is a product that appeals to many people. Sports is entertainment but at the end of the day I still stand on the side of the fence my golf clubs will always be my entertainment. If you want to come watch me play golf, we’ll see. If you’re showing up, you’ll be watching me play golf. I’m not going to go out on the first tee and dance and party like crazy. I will do my best to compete in a golf tournament. Wherever the best players are competing, I’m showing up to those tournaments because I love the competition. This is really what I like the most.

“In terms of format, golf is a funny game. You won’t always go – there is no perfect system to play a golf tournament that is the most fun product and also the product that gets the best player every time. Many times in golf, the guy who plays the best might not even win that week. As far as small jumps go, it’s an unstable game. It is a challenging sport. I am open to suggestions. I still think 72 holes of stroke play is the best format for a golf tournament, but if a sponsor wants to come in and change it up a little bit, I like to compete and I like to win when we go home and play. Wolf for four hours, and I’m giving a guy 20 strokes.

“I don’t want to give him money at the end of the day, whether it’s $5 or $500. I don’t want to pull out my wallet and give him money at the end of the day. It’s just not in my blood. I want to win, whether we’re playing ping-pong or whatever.

“Whatever the format, I will show up and try to do my best. That’s really all.”

With that, here is the complete payout breakdown for this week’s Championship Tour, played at East Lake Golf Club.
