Jack Catterall’s promoter Eddie Hearn feels that he is victorious against Arnold Barboza jr. Last Saturday night earned in their struggle for the WBO-Tuss-Engineer Lights Welterweight title in the Co-Op Live Arena in Manchester, England.
Hearn says Catterall (30-2, 13 COs) did enough to get the fight by winning the 12th round, and he was surprised that he did not win. He mentions that, when their fighters come to the UK, they need to do a little more to make a decision.
Catterall’s Shakur aftermath failed
Catterall fought as he always does, using his method of resorting, which he undoubtedly learned from looking Shakur Stevenson and ruined his chances of winning. Interestingly, when Catterall let his hands go, he had success and connected a lot of the time. But it just came down that Jack focused too much on his defense and not enough on his offense. It was the same 90-10 imbalance of defense over the offense we see with Shakur, therefore he is poison for the eyes and is fueled by fans. Catterall has the same problem.
Hearn will just have to live with it. Catterall has the wrong style for him to beat aggressive fighters with talent, as we saw with his loss of Barboza. The problem will continue to arise when Catterall eventually goes on like Richardson Hitchins and Ernesto Mercado. He will be too focused on defense and work out.
The judges have the more aggressive Barboza jr. (32-0, 11 COs) Seen as the better fighter, and it decided a 12-round. It is not surprising that Hearn growls over the decision, because if his fighter, Catterall, won, it would have put him in the position to elevate to the full WBO Championship status when theofimo Lopez chose to swing him.
Hearn’s excuses for Catterall

Hearn should confront the truth. Catterall did not do enough to win last Saturday night, as he was too busy not by Barboza jr. So, instead of coming forward and letting his hands go, Catterall pulls back all over the ring to prevent them from being marked.
He basically gave up the ship with just drawing resistance. Call it cowardly. The flesh was willing, but the Spirit was weak. I see it with fighters all the time. They have the physical ability, but they are spiritually weak. Catterall was a classic example last Saturday, and Hearn struggles to face the truth. It will happen again, believe me.
Catterall’s lack of killer instinct
“In the middle part of the fight, he allowed Barboza to dominate). Early I had it 2-1, 3-1 Catterall, and then Barboza won six, seven, eight, that kind of period, ”says Hearn. “Then Jack came back a little, but I just felt him turn off a little. He (Catterall) lets it slip. This is the key.

As you can see by reading it, Hearn basically says that visiting fighters to the UK get the shaft when it comes to judgment. I respect his honesty to tell it as it is, but it is good that Barboza jr. In this case is fairly treated
“When they said, ‘115-113’ at the end of the Polish judge, I was like ‘I think we got it. “The American judge led 115-113,” Hearn said. “The British judge led 115-113, both other ways. I just thought we won a close decision, but no complaints.
“I think he’ll kick himself,” Hearn says about Catterall. “It’s easy to say,” Do a little more “because if you do more, you are counteracted. Barboza is also a good fighter. He has a sneaking power. I just feel now this is the time for you to kick yourself because you don’t do a little more.
