Submit Carlos Alcaraz to growth João Fonseca gang.
Following his win over Yoshihito Nishioka on Wednesday in Melbourne (6-0, 6-1, 6-4), the third-seeded Spaniard gave his thoughts on the rising 18-year-old from Brazil.
Alcaraz didn’t see all of Fonseca’s 7-6(1) 6-3 7-6(5) victory over the ninth seed. Andrey Rublevbut he saw enough to make a great impression on them.
“I saw a little at the beginning and at the end of the game,” Alcaraz told reporters. “What can I say about that? Simply incredible. I mean, the way he played his first Grand Slam match against his first Top-10, it’s unbelievable. The way he approached the game, the way he handled everything, the nerves, the game in general, it was fantastic.”

Alcaraz is confident that Fonseca has the potential to climb the rankings quickly, even though he is playing in his first Grand Slam main draw.
“There’s somebody I have to take care of, let’s say,” he said. “He will be there. It’s only the beginning of the year, just one Grand Slam win away, but he’ll be there.
“We will put Joao Fonseca’s name on the list of the best players in the world very soon.”
