Carlos Alcaraz had a winning belt with five games against Jannik sinful Snapped during this year’s final in Wimbledon, but the Spaniard is already waiting forward to start another heater against world No.1. This may sound as an impossible task for mortal, but for Alcaraz, who controls an 8-5 record against Italian, you never know.
Before Monday’s final in Cincinnati, the five-time great champion said he is excited to face the sinner in what will be the first end of the couple in a difficult court, and their 14th meeting in general.
“I think this, if I’m not wrong, is the first final in a difficult court,” Alcaraz said. “So I’m excited to get that challenge. I know Jannik, no doubt, he is the best player in the world in a difficult court and maybe on every surface now. So it will really be a great match.
“I have to be ready for this, seeing what I did wrong in the last game. And I’ll try to do it better on Monday. I’m just happy to be in another final. I think it’s my seventh in a row against Jannik. So it’s a great, brilliant day.”
Alcaraz: count small details
Alcaraz of the second seed says he learns from all his battles with the sinner, and he is always looking for tactical wrinkles in his rival that can give him an advantage.
“I would say it’s about small, small details,” he said. “And obiviously i’m learning. I’m learning from every match and playing against Him, Becuses from the first match, i’m sud too. SO after, after all match, we have to rewatch the match, just to take notes and to see i can be better, and to see. Tactically, How Should I Play and Everynding, Everything Like and Study.
Asked what makes the sinner so difficult as an opponent, Alcaraz said how he manages to offer high flight tennis whenever they meet, without failing.
“It is crazy, the way he always plays for his good, it seems like you have to win every point every game. He makes you suffer from the first point of the match, until the last ball. Capacity of, you know, being there, point after point, having no rise in the match is really special.”
