“He doesn’t look happy” – King claims James Maddison after Palace defeat

Former Tottenham scout Bryan King has claimed that midfielder James Maddison did not look happy when he was substituted against Crystal Palace.

Maddison joined Tottenham for a fee close to £40m from Leicester City last summer and quickly made an impression with his performances.

Maddison hasn’t been the same since his injury last season

In the first 9 games, he scored 3 and assisted another 5, continuing his impressive performances from his time at Leicester City.

He was recognized for his performances as he won the Premier League Player of the Month for August.

However, an injury during a fierce game against Chelsea in November ended up derailing his form. He was out for a couple of months and since coming back from injury he hasn’t been able to replicate his form.

And while his performances this season improved slightly, he still hasn’t been able to be as impactful as he was during games, so manager Ange Postecoglou took him off early in several games this season.

Recently, it was tagged as ‘careless’ against Manchester United, and was criticized for his performance against West Ham as he dropped a performance of 4/10.

He was withdrawn at half-time during Tottenham’s 4-1 win over the Hammers. The Australian took him off as part of a tactical change and brought in Pape Matar Sarr in his place. And the switch seemed to work as Spurs scored 3 quick goals in 10 minutes to complete an impressive turnaround.

He was also withdrawn early against Crystal Palace after another poor performance as Ange Postecoglou replaced him around the 60 minute mark.

Bryan King: James Maddison didn’t look happy

talking with Tottenham NewsKing noted that Maddison didn’t seem at all happy with Ange’s decision to retire him.

He said:

“Spurs looked a very ordinary team against Palace.”

“We haven’t seen almost any of the attacking players. Maddison was once again a disappointment. There was a moment during the first half when I thought I might have scored. However, he seemed to have stepped into a mess.”

“He just looked bad, to be honest. And from the looks of his reaction when they let him through just after the hour, he doesn’t look happy at all.”
