Manchester United centre-back Harry Maguire has confirmed he will miss “a few weeks” after picking up a muscle injury in the 0-0 draw with Aston Villa.
Maguire was pulled off shortly before half-time in the Premier League game and replaced by summer signing Matthijs de Ligt, with manager Erik ten Hag admitting immediately after the final whistle that he was unsure of the severity of the problem of the English international.
In a social media post, Maguire shed more light on his injury.
“Frustrated to pick up an injury at the weekend, I’ll be on the sidelines for a few weeks for myself, but I’ll be back stronger,” he wrote.
Maguire has lost his place in the united starter this season, with Ten Hag preferring De Ligt and Argentina international Lisandro Martínez, but was restored to the starting line-up against Villa in an attempt to balance a leaky defense that had conceded three goals in consecutive games.
Impressive alongside another renaissance star, 36-year-old Jonny Evans, Maguire’s comeback was cut short by injury, which also denied him the chance to force his way into the England set-up.
Maguire was initially left out of Lee Carsley’s squad for the October international break but tipped to return after Villa defender Ezri Konsa was forced to withdraw through injury.
Carsley has pledged his support to Maguirepreviously a standout player under Gareth Southgate, insisting his international career is still very much alive despite his latest omission.
