Speaking to Star Sports, Harbhajan Singh explained:
“I am not sure if Dhoni will play but if he is available then he would be the first choice to retain the team even if no player is considered this season. After him the next choice will be Ravindra Jadeja. , then Rachin Ravindra, captain Ruturaj Gaikwada when it comes, it will be a definite catch.”
MS Dhoni is yet to confirm his availability for IPL 2025. According to information, the goalkeeper-fielder was also approached by Chennai Super Kings (CSK) officials in this regard, but he did not take any decision. Reports claimed that franchise officials would meet him either on the 29th or the 30th of October. Only after the meeting will the management finalize the retentions for the next edition of the league.

Harbhajan Singh further mentioned that Chennai Super Kings will retain five players. Apart from MS Dhoni, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Ravindra Jadeja, the franchise will keep Rachin Ravindra and Matheesha Pathirana with them for the next edition of the league, he said. He explained:
“I believe these four players will be retained. Apart from them, we can see if we can keep Pathirana, who is an excellent player, in the squad. If the wicket-taker is retained, it could be a surprise pick, but CSK can only retain five players.
“So in my opinion the probable retentions are Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Ravindra Jadeja, Rachin Ravindra, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Pathirana.”
