Brian Norman Jr. is amused that fans consider Devin Haney to be his “Kryptonite” going into their co-fight on November 22nd. on DAZN PPV in Riyadh. This annoys the WBO welterweight champion Norman Jr. (28-0, 22 KOs) that people overlook his boxing ability and view Haney (32-0, 16 KOs) as far superior on the technical side.
The reason fans see Haney as the better fighter is because of how Norman Jr. struggled in his fights against Janelson Figueroa Bocachica and Quinton Randall. He didn’t look good in either of those fights. Norman Jr. was dropped in the first round by Bocachica (17-4-1, 11 KOs) in their fight on March 2, 2024.
“This is the former undisputed, two-division world champion. This is the right guy to do it against,” Brian Norman Jr. said. DAZN Boxing about his fight with Devin Haney. “We know for a fact that Devin Haney is no slacker.”
The undefeated Haney is an excellent opponent for Norman Jr. to test his skills. Devin’s only career loss is to Ryan Garcia in April of last year, and that was the well-documented situation in which Kingry tested positive for a PED. So, Haney is still undefeated and will face Norman Jr. expose as a hype job.
Haney is the wrong type of fighter against Norman Jr. to defend against him as he is not a forward type like his previous 28 opponents he faced in his seven year professional career. The hit and no-hit style that Devin uses, Norman Jr. forcing to hunt the whole fight. It won’t be easy because he lacks quick feet.
“People say he’s my kryptonite. He has feet. He has a sting. I don’t have feet. I don’t have a stitch. At least that’s what they say. So, it’s literally in my career where I hit that extra uh. It’s exactly what I need, and I’m all for it,” Norman Jr. said.
Fans aren’t necessarily saying that Devin is “Kryptonite” to Norman Jr.’s style. What they point out is that he has a huge experience advantage over the Georgia native, giving him a significant edge in this fight.
Brian Jr. hasn’t faced anywhere near the same level of opposition as Haney, and usually would be fine if he wasn’t the WBO welterweight champion. Step into this environment on a DAZN PPV card with the spotlight on him, it’s going to be tough for Norman Jr. Ideally, he should have fought top-level opposition earlier to prepare for Haney.
