Bill Haney has revealed his 10-fighter “hit list” for his son Devin Haney to take on, starting with Brian Norman Jr. on November 22. He says Devin (32-0, 16 KOs) needs to “get through him” to move on to the next fighter on his list.
Haunted by The Ryan Garcia Beating
Haney, 26, looked spooked and overly cautious in his last fight against aging veteran Jose Ramirez on May 2 in Times Square. Devin appeared to be a mentally broken fighter, still haunted by the beating he took from Ryan Garcia in 2024.
Promoter Eddie Hearn said Devin seemed concerned about his ability to take a punch. If Haney fights Norman in a tentative way, he won’t last long.
For Haney to beat any of the fighters on his last other side of the Brian Jr. to fight one, he will have to fight with the old aggression he showed when he campaigned at 135.
- Brian Norman Jr.: WBO
- Mario Barrios: WBC welterweight champion
- Rolando “Rolly” Romero: WBA belt holder
- Jaron “Boots” Ennis
- Keyshawn Davis
- Conor Benn
- Ryan Garcia
- Teofimo Lopez
- Shakur Stevenson
- Gervonta “Tank” Davis
No path to the next name
Given the way Haney has fared in his last two fights, he has very little chance of getting to the next opponent on his list. If he is defeated by the WBO welterweight champion Norman Jr. (28-0, 22 KOs) is wiped out, he can forget his delusional list.
Instead, focus on a rescue mission to rebuild against weaker fighters. Turki Alalshikh would have no reason to pour money into a Ryan Garcia vs. Haney rematch. That rivalry would be dead in the water after Norman Jr. broke up with Devin.
The most unrealistic battle
“All of them are realistic. (Brian Norman) was the most unrealistic,” Bill Haney said 78Sportstvand discussed how fans doubted him pitting Devin against WBO welterweight champion Brian Norman Jr.
Haney vs. Norman Jr. will be in the co-feature slot on the David Benavidez vs. Anthony Yarde event fight on DAZN PPV on November 22 at the ANB Arena in Riyadh.
“Our next move is to get through him to get to our next move,” Bill says of Norman Jr. “That’s what we plan to do on November 22. “I see someone who’s been in the division for eight years and hasn’t fought a champion.
Whistle past the cemetery
It sounds like Bill is whistling past the graveyard, overlooking Haney’s dire situation to be in this fight with Norman Jr. to go Realistically, Devin’s next move will be to fight some sub-level fighter in a confidence builder after facing Norman Jr. lost
