Haney says he has Norman Jr. broke his nose in the second round

Devin Haney says he knows he “knows” he broke Brian Norman Jr’s nose in the second round when he dropped him with a right hand last Saturday. He states that he felt that Norman Jr. (28-1, 22 KOs) “not respected” him, and he thought he had to earn the “respect” early, otherwise he would have had a hard time.

Haney (33-0, 15 KOs) defeated Norman Jr. dethroned and captured his WBO welterweight title with a 12-round unanimous decision on November 22 at the ANB Arena in Riyadh. Devin says the rest of the competition was “easy” beat him after the second round. It didn’t seem that way to fans. Haney held a lot in each round and used that tactic to nullify Norman Jr’s offense and stall the rounds.

“That was the game plan. I wanted to shock him early,” Devin Haney told the InsideRingShowand talks about his second round knockout of Brian Norman Jr. last Saturday night in Riyadh. “I knew he didn’t really respect me. I knew I had to earn my respect or it was going to be a long night. That’s what I did.”

Norman Jr. didn’t seem to regain his confidence after being dropped in the second round. He was reluctant to attack Devin like he did against other opponents.

“I went in there. I shocked him, hurt him, and it made the rest of the fight easy for me,” Haney said of his knockout of Norman Jr. “I know I broke it (Brian’s nose). But I want him to come home safely to his family. I hope it’s nothing crazy. I had nothing but respect for Brian and his father.”
