Devin Haney said today that a rematch between him and Ryan Garcia is the “biggest fight” in boxing. He wants it to happen in 2025, provided it is on “a level playing field.”
Haney-Garcia is a big fight, but certainly not the “biggest” in the sport because their previous fight was a mismatch. Ryan hit the stuffing from Haney and put him on the canvas three times. Devin looked human yo-yowith the number of times he hit the deck in that fight, which was six times, not three.
The referee gave Haney a break by ruling three additional takedowns as slides as he continued to collapse on the canvas after being badly hurt by Garcia in the seventh.
Former two-division world champion Haney is in London today to meet with Turki Al-Shiekh to see if he has a better deal to offer him than the one he received from BLK Prime to be on their network in March fight. If Turki’s offer isn’t better than BLK Prime’s, it’s unclear whether Haney will continue to shop around himself.
A level playing field
Haney (31-0, 15 KOs) still blames his loss to Ryan from last April on being dirty with Ostarine in his system. Fans don’t believe it, but Haney calls it rather than owning the loss. It would have been better on Devin’s part.
Still, it will be a bitter pill for him to swallow to openly admit that Garcia (24-1, 20 KOs) was too powerful and talented for him to stay on his feet in their April 20 fight at the Barclays center in Brooklyn, New York. York.
“The biggest fight,” Devin Haney said Boxing Newsand talks about a rematch between him and Ryan Garcia being the “biggest” fight in the sport. “He must be clean. It’s the only way a rematch can happen, but it’s a fight I’d love to make in 2025. Maybe we can make it, but I just want to be on a level playing field.
“I am here to meet with His Excellency Turki Al-Shiekh to try to reach an agreement. If not, I have a deal with BLK Prime, who are willing to give me what I want. We can go that route. I’m here for a reason, and we can make it happen,” Haney said.
