Devin Haney appeared to mock Regis Prograis today in response to him graciously saying in an interview that he has more tools than Jack Catterall. Rather than say thank you, Haney invited him to his camp when he began training Catterall.
Haney (31-0, 15 KOs) hopes His Excellency Turki Alalshikh will be interested in setting up a fight between him and Catterall. It is doubtful that he will.
Prograis responded to Haney’s mocking comment, saying: “I think you might be bipolar bro.“
It seemed odd that Haney would invite former WBA and WBC light welterweight champion Prograis (29-3, 24 KOs) to spar, ostensibly as a sparring partner, when he complimented him with the “tools” comment.
Last Saturday night, Haney appeared annoyed when Prograis told Catterall that he was the best fighter he would fight during his career following his 12-round unanimous decision loss at the Co-op Live Arena in Manchester, England. Haney then up xand said: “I ruined Regis and beat him worse than Catterall. Regis is just bitter.”
If that wasn’t enough, Haney said Prograis should “retire” and that he doesn’t have a chin. That comment is rich from Haney, considering what Ryan Garcia had just done to him on April 20, knocking him down three times in a one-sided 12-round decision victory in Brooklyn, New York.
Prograis responded to Haney, saying, “No, I’m not retiring. I’m going to be champion again.” Regis will move up to welterweight, and he has an excellent chance to defeat one of the three champions to become a two-division world champion. If Prograis captures a title at 147, a rematch with Haney could be in the cards in the future if Devin doesn’t retire in 2025 if things go badly for him in his comeback.
