The first tournament of the new year also has a serious payday, as well keeper also has the distinction of being the first of eight Signature Events on the PGA Tour in 2025.
It’s a very good way to start things off you are a top 60 player: a week in paradise, no cuts and a golf course that’s yielding dozens of birdies.
Hideki Matsuyama is on track to challenge the scoring record Cameron Smith set at Kapalua’s Plantation course in 2022, where his memorable battle with Jon Rahm brought him to a record 34 under par. Matsuyama’s 54-hole record is 27 under, thanks to a round of 11-under par 62 on Saturday.
This is quite impressive. But like Smith, Matsuyama also has a close following. Collin Morikawa is just one shot back at 26-under after he also shot 62 on Saturday. The top two winners have been split from the group ahead of Sunday’s final round. Thomas Detry is their closest peer, at 22 years old.
In addition to a possible new entry in the PGA Tour record books, Matsuyama, Morikawa and the rest of the field are also chasing a sweet bag. A whopping $20 million is up for grabs on Sunday. Below, you can see how it all breaks down.
