GT, SRH suffer as Mallika Sagar commits shocking mistakes

Auctioneer Mallika Sagar didn’t have a very good day at work on Sunday, November 24, as she made a few blunders at the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction.

A couple of blunders by Mallika Sagar led to Gujarat Titans (GT) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) losses in the auction.

IPL Auction 2025: Mallika Sagar’s Big Mistakes Revealed

Mallika Sagar became the first female auctioneer in the history of the Indian Premier League in the 2024 edition of the event and she was later selected to do the job in the 2025 IPL Auction.

He committed some major blunders at the ongoing auction in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, and fans took to social media channels to express their disappointment.

One of the biggest mistakes Mallika Sagar made was when Jos Buttler was sold. The star England wicketkeeper-batsman was signed by Gujarat Titans for Rs 15.75 crore after a bidding war between Rajasthan Royals, Gujarat Titans and Lucknow Super Giants.

However, Gujarat Titans could have paid INR 25 lakh less for Buttler had Mallika Sagar not blundered. Notably, when LSG was asked if they were interested in increasing the amount to 15.75 crore, Titans was INR 15.50 crore as it experienced a drop in concentration. Super Giants left the race but he mistakenly said INR 15.75 crore instead of INR 15.50 crore and Buttler was sold for INR 15.75 crore.

Another big mistake made by Mallika Sagar was during the bidding process of Abhinav Manohar. The explosively inclined mega auction entered the base price at INR 30 lakh.

RCB launched a bid for him and CSK immediately jumped into action. The two franchises were engaged in an intense bidding war and Gujarat Titans stepped in after RCB backed out.

Later, Sunrisers Hyderabad joined the bidding war with INR 2.40 crore and when the bidding reached INR 2.80 crore, CSK refused. The sale of Abhinav Manohar to SRH for INR 2.80 was announced and the hammer came down.

The bidding reopened at INR 3 crore as Mallika Sagar said Kolkata Knight Riders raised their oars and could not see him. SRH then bid INR 20 lakh more and finally got Manohar for INR 3.20 crore.

We are very happy to have Jos Buttler in our side – Parthiv Patel

Newly appointed batting and assistant coach Parthiv Patel was happy to have Jos Buttler in the squad. He said:

“I am very happy to have Jos Buttler in our side. He can hit anywhere, he can hold, he can also help Shubman (Gill). We wanted to get our number. 1 bowler and no. 1 dough from the frame set and we have both.”

Also, GT’s director of cricket Vikram Solanki expressed his satisfaction with how they built the team in the auction.

“We are very happy with our team. We have few players in these first two sets and we have played our part according to the plan. The team is starting to form but we still have to fill the gaps and be smart, in fact, there are some very good players coming,” Solanki said.

What? RCB released Abhinav Manohar at 3.2 cr – Dodda Ganesh

Former Indian National Cricket Team player Dodda Ganesh is furious with Royal Challengers Bengaluru for not doing everything he can to secure the services of explosive batsman Abhinav Manohar. Taking the official X handle, he wrote:

“What? RCB released Abhinav Manohar at 3.2 cr. They were happy to bid up to 23 cr for Venky Iyer.

“Don’t tell me Iyer is an all-rounder. He has just played in 9 of his 50 IPL matches. Has just 3 hkt and conceded close to 11 rpo. RCB #IPLAuction2025.”
