Greg Hackett doubts Ryan Garcia’s focus versus Barrios

Hackett believes that Ryan’s wealth makes it difficult for anyone to tell him anything because he doesn’t react like a person would if they didn’t sit on a large fortune at 26.

“It’s hard to take Ryan seriously right now. He’s doing a lot of other things outside of boxing. If you’re going to be a fighter, get ready,” trainer Greg Hackett said. YSM Sports Media about Ryan Garcia.

Hackett isn’t the only one Ryan can’t take seriously. Many fans and boxers view him the same way, believing that he is just going through the motions with his career. He is young and rich. His net worth is $50 million, and it is likely to double in the near future if he stays active and fights twice a year.

“It’s hard to talk about (Garcia vs. Barrios fight) when he’s with streamers late at night. Yeah, it’s around the corner,” Hackett said when asked if Ryan should be in camp, Feb. 21. This fight he needs to be focused because if he wins, he will be champion at 147.”

Ryan is definitely not what you would call a ‘gym rat’ as he prefers to work out at home in his spacious mansion with its marble floors in Los Angeles, California. Many fans blame Garcia’s loss to Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero on his training at home rather than in a gym.

It was a bad match from the start, and Kingry would have had trouble with the size and strength of Rolly. The size advantage Romero had in that fight was colossal. He looked like a junior middleweight fighting a 140 pounder.

“He needs something like this. He’s never been a world champion. I think he’s hung up on the entertainment aspect of it,” Hackett said of Ryan Garcia. “I think he’s reached a point where it’s hard to tell him stuff because he’s made so much money. He’s a superstar when it comes to boxing. So, I think he thinks he’s made it.”

If Garcia captures a world title, his purses and popularity will skyrocket. It won’t matter that he wrested his title from the perceived weakest link at 147, Barrios. Fans will continue to gravitate towards Ryan, and the money he will make in his next fight will be massive.

Even if he doesn’t win a world title against Barrios, he will still remain popular. His management will rebuild him with some made-to-order fighters for him to beat. He will be right back on top and fighting for world titles.

“In boxing, if you lose, they write you off. But a kid like him, they keep giving him chances because all he has to do is brush his hair to the side, clean his face, and he looks like an innocent kid again,” Hackett said of Ryan.

What Hackett doesn’t see is that Garcia is a social media star, which helps his boxing career tremendously. So even when he suffers losses, fans still want to see him fight because of his huge following on Instagram, X, TikTok and YouTube. If he didn’t have any of that, he’d be as invisible as your typical preliminary undercard fighter.
