There is not much time left in the winter transfer window for Graham Potter and the West Ham board to execute any transfer business, but one deal that has been done concerns a left winger with 99 goal or assist contributions.

Barcelona’s Ansu Fati is ready to move to West Hami Ben Chilwell could join the Irons before the deadline to set up a meeting with his former Chelsea manager.

One player who will not be pulling on the claret and blue for the rest of the 2024/25 season, however, is Maxwel Cornet.

Graham Potter will not be able to call Maxwell Cornet

According to reliable journalist Fabrizio Romano, the Hammers have agreed a deal with Genoa for the Serie A side to take the Ivorian on loan.

While he would appear to have an impressive 99 G/A contributions in his 350-game career thus far (transfer market), managed just one Premier League goal and six assists in all competitions in his 38 appearances for the Hammers.

Genoa to offer Cornet a lifeline; Graham Potter will continue the development of West Ham’s squad

Genoa manager Patrick Vieira clearly sees something at left-back that he can work with, and if Cornet does well, it’s entirely possible that something more permanent could happen.

An expert accuses the West Ham star of unacceptable behavior!

What the move does is keep the player off the Hammers’ wage bill and away from a first-team setup that he realistically has no chance of breaking into.

On loan to bottom Premier League club Southampton at the start of the current campaign, he couldn’t even make an impression there.

Transfermarkt details that he has only made four appearances that have totaled a paltry 187 minutes.

It’s clear the player will welcome the new opportunity, while West Ham don’t have to worry about what happens next – Cornet is under contract with them until 2027 – for the next six months.
