Gout runs a top 20.29 in the 200m

The teenage sprint sensation is fourth on the all-time under-18s list after an incredible performance in Australia.

Gout Gout’s stock continued to rise after a sensational 20.29 (1.3) 200m at the Queensland All Schools Track and Field Championships.

The 16-year-old’s time was the fastest by an Australian since 1993 and saw him break the country’s under-20 record by half a lap.

Gut will certainly have his sights set on the Australian senior record of 20.06 that secured Peter Norman Olympic 200m silver at the 1968 Mexico Games.

If Gaut can better that time by the time he turns 18 next December, he will also pass Usain Bolt, who ran 20.13 from 16 to 18, on the all-time 200m list.

Gout’s time of 20.29 currently ranks him fourth in the rankings, ahead of Eriyon Knighton (19.84), Bolt and Puripol Bunson (20.19).

The Australian first caught the eye two years ago when he clocked 10.57 in the 100m and has since improved his personal best to 10.29.

It’s over 200m where he’s made the biggest impact, but last summer Gut won an excellent silver medal at the World Under-20 Championships in Lima by half a lap. settling behind South Africa’s Bayanda Walaza.
