If you have decided that 2025 is your year to finally improve your golf gameyou are probably aware of this actually practicing is a good place to start.
But finding time to practice can be difficult with a busy schedule, and just hitting ball after ball on the range when you I DO actually having time is not an ideal strategy.
So what is a hope? senior disabled to do? According to 100 Best Teacher Krista Duntonthe key is to break up the practice time you have into easily digestible segments. With 30 minutes of interval time, for example, you should maximize your efficiency by dividing the time into three distinct blocks: mechanics, target practice, and performance under pressure.
“The first 10 minutes should be spent working on your mechanics and whatever key is technically good for you,” Dunton said. In other words, this is the time to put these improvement tips to work, whether it’s a key thought in your queue, transition, or delivery.
For the next 10 minutes, Dunton says it’s time to focus on one goal.
“That’s when you start going through your pre-shot routine like on the golf course,” Dunton said. “Set yourself up, take one last look at your chosen target and pull the trigger.”
The last 10 minutes are based on the routine you practiced, but should also include some pressure. In this segment, you not only have to pick a target and go through a complete routine, but also change clubs between shots, and maybe even imagine playing a hole in order. Practicing this way, Dunton said, means you’ll be ready to go on the course.
“If you can make a regular habit of practicing like this, in three 10-minute segments, it will make your golf a lot more relaxing,” Dunton said. “How can you expect to perform on the course when you haven’t trained for it? But if you practice properly and train yourself to use a decent routine, it’s much easier to achieve.”
Dunton’s practical tips will also help you maintain good technique between shots and avoid the fatigue that can set in when you robotically hit dozens of balls. By being thoughtful about your practice time, you can make even a short session worthwhile for your overall improvement.
