Golf Influencer Starter Kit

So you want to be a golf influencer?

Surprisingly, you are not the first person to have this idea. But that shouldn’t necessarily discourage you. Being a golf influencer can be a rewarding and profitable pursuit.

So once you’ve decided what your venue and voice will be, you need some equipment.

Here are five must-haves for the aspiring golf influencer.

First, you need somewhere to post your content.

The most common place to start is TikTok or Instagram with later expansion to YouTube. TikTok and Instagram offer more immediate gratification when it comes to views, but you’ll want to focus on sustainability and building a community.

Expand to YouTube when the time is right. When is the right time? It usually (but not always) comes after you’ve built up a good following on Instagram and/or TikTok.

An above average camera

You might read “above average camera” and start sweating, but you don’t have to.

At first, this is a “want”, not a “need”. Most new phones will do. Many of the creators you see every day use their phones for their social media content. When you decide to create long-term content, a professional camera is a great investment. Your phone will do just fine if you’re new to the golf crafting space.

** Pro Tip: Shoot 2x or 3x with iPhone Pro for a sleek look with better ball tracking.

A phone tripod

A phone tripod is a must when it comes to filming content.

The best makers have stable frames and other advantages that a good tripod offers. The benefits of using a tripod far outweigh the cost of the tripod. This is a “need”, not a “want”.

money

This is bad, but becoming a golf influencer will cost you some of your hard-earned cash.

The initial investment is not that big, but you MUST spend time on the course every week. Ideally, you are playing golf at least twice a week and have a camera rolling on both days in different outfits. In the past, I’ve maximized my time on the course by pre-planning the footage and content I want filmed.

Don’t wing it. Go in with a goal and make it happen. Once you’ve bought a tee, the length of the tees should be the only thing draining your bank account. And let’s be honest: you’re going to golf anyway. If you’re committed to your dream, don’t let this initial expense derail it.

fitness

You may laugh reading this, but becoming a golf influencer takes one LOT of patience.

Most people think they make good content always equates to views. This is not the case. If you asked me to show you five high-quality content sites that never made a real splash, I could do it in about 30 seconds.

At some point, they probably will, but consistency and patience are key. Quality content is good. Consistency is better. Consistent quality content is best.

If you do, I can only guarantee growth.

Go for it!

We live in an age where anyone can become an “influencer”.

If you have extra time on your hands, why not give it a go? Most creators were right where you are right now at some point. You could be the next big thing.

If you’re not, you’ll always have the memories. Don’t get too excited about the chance to become famous. Find your niche, hone your craft, and create quality content that others will be interested in for years to come.
