Golf Driver Attitude 101: How to settle for success outside tee


Your driver’s attitude makes or breaks any shot. Find the wrong, and you will wait, hit and hit those embarrassing pop-ups that barely clean the Tee box. Get it right, and you will start pressing the drives down the road.

Most players think that standing is exactly where you put your feet. Actually actually four things that work together: the position of the ball, the width of the stand, the angle of the spine and the alignment. Nail these bases and you will hit longer, narrower discs.

Your back should bend a little away from the target, with your right shoulder lower than the left (right leaders of the FPR). It happens naturally when you catch the club, but many players fight it.

Don’t fight it. This slope puts you to hit the ball on the road up which is exactly what you want with a driver. It also holds you behind the ball through influence.

Hold your head behind the ball from start to finish. You need to be able to see the back of the ball clearly to the address.

Lining: Target in parallel with, not target

Here is something that travels almost everyone: your body should not target the target. Your legs, thighs and shoulders should aim in parallel where you want the ball to go.

Picture Rail Tracks. The ball and target sit on a path. Your body aims along the other trail. Most players target their body directly on the target, which actually shows them to the right where they want to hit it (for the right).

Practice with sticks or stretch clubs on the ground. Put one along your target line and another where your fingers should be. This trains your eye to see the right stretch.
