Tottenham Hotspur have been advised to consider an immediate move for Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher to solve their goalkeeping woes.
With Guglielmo Vicario sidelined since November with ankle surgery, Spurs have relied on veteran Fraser Forster, whose contract expires at the end of the season.
The north London club recently made their first signing of 2025, bringing in 21-year-old Antonin Kinsky from Slavia Prague. And he made an impressive debut in the first leg of the League Cup semi-final against Liverpool, producing an impressive performance in Spurs’ 1-0 win.
Tottenham urged to sign Liverpool goalkeeper Kevin Kelleher
Despite Kinsky’s signing, Tottenham insider and Lilywhite Rose owner John Wenham has urged Tottenham to act quickly and sign Kelleher this month instead of waiting until the summer.
Wenham emphasized the urgency of landing a proven goalkeeper like Kelleher this month rather than waiting until the summer:
talking with Tottenham NewsWenham said:
“If there was a plan to get a genuine alternative to Vicario in the summer then those plans should go ahead.
“The club has the money to do it now. So I don’t see why they wouldn’t. Those in control need to realize the importance of the situation we are in and spend money.
“For example, it looks like Kelleher could be available this summer, with Giorgi Mamardashvili coming to the club and Alisson probably staying. So go sign him now, pay the money.”
Kelleher has built a reputation for his composure under pressure and reliability in goal. Since joining Liverpool’s academy in 2015, the Ireland international has produced outstanding performances despite being Alisson Becker’s understudy.
He played a pivotal role in Liverpool’s 2022 EFL Cup triumph, scoring the winning penalty in the penalty shoot-out against Chelsea, becoming a fan favorite at Anfield.
This season, Kelleher stepped up again during Allison Becker’s absence and performed admirably, making some brilliant saves, including a Mbappe penalty during Liverpool’s 2-0 win against Madrid.
Kelleher himself has been keen to move away from Liverpool in search of regular first-team football. Nottingham Forest actually tried to sign him in the summer, but the Reds rejected a bid.
And even if he remains willing to leave, convincing Kelleher to switch to Spurs could prove a challenge. Given Vicario’s presence, the Irishman may not join Spurs unless he is promised a start ahead of the Italian.
