George Kambosos jr. Responded to British Lights Welterweight Adam Azim who called him after his eighth round loss of IBF champion, IBF-pound IBF-pound champion Richardson Hitchins last Saturday night, and he said he should focus on fighting top contenders or champions.
Kambosos rejects Azim call
Kambosos reaffirmed Azim, 23, and said he was going to take a break and spent his millions after his loss of Hitchins. He suggests that Azim focus on trying to fight these guys:
– Richardson Hitchins
– Theofimo Lopez
– Devin Haney
– Arthur Biyarslanov
Azim’s barren CV problem
Adam’s resume is so barren in quality names that the only fighter on the list he would have a chance to fight is Biyarslanov, an obscure contender for 140, just like him. There would be no fame to fight him, and chances are he would lose.
The unbeaten Azim (13-0, 10 COs) are on the #8 WBA and #12 WBC. He still did not have an opposition at world level in his professional career in the world. For him to call out former United Lightweight Champion Kambosos (22-4, 10 COs), he probably feels justified, as IBF champion Hitchins chose to use him as a staircase to create a name for himself.
It was a poor method for Richardson to create fame and make himself look like a super talent, but the supporters fell for it. The performance sold it on Hitchins. So it makes sense that the additional contender Azim to call out Kambosos to follow the same strategy.
However, there is no interest on his part to enjoy the contender, which, unlike the former Matchroo-promoted Hitchins, has nothing to offer. He is not popular, has no belt and is not promoted by a large promotional company.
