After announcing Riviera Country Club will not host the 2025 Genesis InvitationalThe PGA Tour has found a new home. And it is very popular.

Torrey Pines Golf Course, in San Diego (where the Tour is hosting a special event this week), will become the one-time host of Genesis next month. The Tour announced the move – which was reported earlier this week – during the third round of the Opening of Farmers Insurance.

Genesis has been played in the greater Los Angeles area for nearly 100 years, but the recent wildfires ravaging LA County forced the tournament to be moved to the scheduled week of February 10-16.

As repetitive as it may feel to run the tournament on the same golf course just two weeks later, there will be some notable differences between this week and Genesis week. Chief among them: Tiger Woods will be included. The tournament host hasn’t played Torrey Pines since 2020, where he finished T9 in what was his final Tour event.

Woods has a storied history on the course, including his iconic 2008 US Open victory against Rocco Mediate. Woods also won the Farmers Insurance Open seven times, including four in a row in the mid-2000s. It remains to be seen if he will do it at the Torrey Pines Genesis event, but given that he attempted to play the Genesis in History fighting the fluit stands to reason that he will do it.

Notably, the event will be played exclusively on the South Course. This week’s Farmers Insurance Open is played in the North AND South Course at Torrey, trying for a much larger field (156) than Genesis (80). As you can see in the score averages, the South Course typically plays about three strokes harder than the North Course – relative to par – so Genesis will feature four days of that test rather than just three.

There will also be a much stronger field. The Genesis Invitational is a signature event, meaning it will have a $20 million purse and a field that includes the top 50 players from 2024. That means we can expect Scottie Scheffler, Collin Morikawa and many of the best players in the world play at Torrey Pines, something that it is not this week’s case. Morikawa was among a long list of pros who pulled out of the event this week.

of Tournament announcement promised there will be many “Los Angeles-related relief initiatives” that week to benefit those affected by the fires. Genesis plans to return to Riviera Country Club in 2026.
