Gautam Gambhir to be sacked as red ball head coach; Successor identified by BCCI

Indian National Cricket Team head coach Gautam Gambhir has faced massive scrutiny after losing the Test series against New Zealand National Cricket Team. According to reports in MyKhel, it has been learned that the current coach can only lead the white ball team.

The Indian National Cricket Team suffered a shambolic defeat to the New Zealand National Cricket Team in the three-match Test series. For the first time in the history of the game, the Rohit Sharma-led side suffered a 0-3 whitewash at home in the longest format of the game.

Gautam Gambhir has come under huge scrutiny for his poor coaching after the loss to New Zealand

Following this, coach Gautam Gambhir came under massive scrutiny for his poor training. There are various reports that the pitches were prepared based on the suggestion of the head coach, and that he even played a major role in the selection of the team.

The Indian batting has struggled on the spin rails and this has cast huge doubts on the ability of both the players and the team. However, all the blame for this has been put on head coach Gautam Gambhir and he has reportedly come under the BCCI’s scanner.

Gautam Gambhir will be given the Australia series to prove his worth

Gambhir will reportedly be given the Australian series to prove his worth. If the Indian National Cricket Team fails to win the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25, he may have to face conditions for a failed performance as the coach of the national team.

A source close to the BCCI has claimed that Gautam Gambhir may have to relinquish charge of the Test team if India fail to win in Australia. Speaking to MyKhel, he explained:

“If that doesn’t work, he may have to let go of the Test team for the sake of the country. It’s all speculation again. We’ll cross the bridge when it comes.”

If Gautam Gambhir fails to impress in Australia, VVS Laxman will take charge of the red ball team.

Earlier it was claimed that India was exploring the option of having two coaches for the white ball and red ball teams. But it was Gambhir who wanted to coach the team in all formats and after he negotiated, he was handed the role of head coach.

However, talks may resume after Gautam Gambhir’s poor performances as the coach of the Indian National Cricket Team. If he fails to make an impact, VVS Laxman will take charge of the red ball team, the source claimed. He explained:

“If the morning shows, this arrangement may not work as we think. Let him continue as the coach of the white-ball team, while the Test team can be led by a brave man like VVS Laxman.”

VVS Laxman, the head of the National Cricket Academy, used to coach the Indian team whenever the main coaching staff was off. He will also oversee the team in the upcoming T20I series against the South African National Cricket Team.
