Head Coach of the Indian National Cricket Team Gautam Gambhir He explored the ‘Baseball’ style of cricket for the England National Cricket Team, which began playing after the appointment of Brendon McCullum as head coach and Ben Stokes as captain in red ball cricket.
Baseball is a term coined by Andrew Miller and refers to the aggressive approach that England adopted under the leadership of McCullum and Stokes to completely transform Test cricket and come out of the doldrums. It was criticized by some pundits, but many pundits also became fans of England’s new approach.
Playing Baseball under the new regime, England won 19 out of 30 matches, losing only one series away to India. It should be noted that during the old regime, Three Lions won only one of the previous 17 matches.
It is often said by English baseball players that they do not care about results and focus mainly on making the purest form of cricket more entertaining with their aggressive cricket. But India coach Gautam Gambhir thinks the exact opposite as results are everything to him.
“I have always believed that the best style is the winning style” – Gautam Gambhir
In the pre-match press conference ahead of the Bangladesh Test series, Gautam Gambhir stated that winning style is the best style a team can adopt and playing according to the situations has become the most important factor.
“I have always believed that the best style is the winning style and we want to be a team that adapts and learns quickly rather than adopting one style,” said Gautam Gambhir.
“If you start adopting a style, there will be no growth. We want the boys to play according to the situation, the conditions and then keep growing every day and that’s what’s important,” said Gautam Gambhir.
“It’s all about giving a name to a certain style and playing only one way. So ultimately, sports is what it’s all about. And as I mentioned earlier, the best, the best style is the winning style,” added Gautam Gambhir.
Meanwhile, Gautam Gambhir will take part in his first Test series as the head coach of the Indian National Cricket Team against the Bangladesh National Cricket Team at home. He has so far led India in the ODI and T20I series against Sri Lanka, winning 20-plus matches but losing the 50-plus series.
Meanwhile, the first Test between India and Bangladesh will be played in Chennai on September 19 and the second Test in Kanpur on September 27.
While India enter the series as favourites, Bangladesh cannot be taken lightly, especially after their historic Test series win in Pakistan. Former Indian cricketer Mohammad Kaif believes that Bangla Tigers will not be able to pose a problem to the Indian team as they perform at a different level at home.
“Bangladesh could have won in Pakistan but India are at a different level. Rohit Sharma’s team has Virat Kohli and Bumrah and is united. It’s hard to beat them at home. #INDvsBAN,” said the former India cricketer.
