Coco gafff Lucia Bronzetti of Italy of Italy 6-2 6-4 to reach Cincinnati’s quarterfinals on Thursday.
The American hit 23 winners in only seven for bronzetti, including six axes and only three double fails.
Gauff will face either Jasmine Paolini or Barbora Krycikova in the last eight.
2023 Champion Gauff is making her sixth appearance in Cincinnati. She became the youngest woman in the history of the open era who won the title two years ago when she defeated Karolina Muchova in the final, and continued to win US Open later that summer.
“Super special to play again in this court, I have special memories from 2023,” Guff said. “I think for the most part I played aggressive, but maybe I became a little passive in some of those games. I was just trying to play controlled and also aggressive, and for the most part I did well.”
Gauff was spoiled five times out of seven opportunities. She never retired to any group, but gave that early rest in the second set before signing the victory with a final break in the tenth match of the two set.
21-year-old Guff is the youngest woman to reach numerous quarter-finals in Cincinnati since Elina Svitolina in 2015.
