Gary Neville has warned Erik ten Hag that he must turn things around at Old Trafford or risk losing his job at Christmas.
Manchester United were beaten 3-0 at Old Trafford by bitter rivals Liverpool in a game that again amplified the club’s biggest problems both on and off the pitch.
Despite some early success for the home side, it was Liverpool who broke the deadlock after Casemiro’s wayward pass to Ryan Gravenberch led to Mohamed Salah’s cross at the back post which Luis Diaz headed home.
The Colombian winger then doubled the lead just before half-time when, following another mistake by the Brazilian midfielder, Liverpool’s two forwards combined once more to make it 2-0.
After making two assists, Salah scored after the break with a left-footed shot inside Andre Onana’s near post.
Gary Neville warns Ten Hag
Despite a good summer transfer window, Ten Hag are back under the pressure they experienced for most of last campaign.
Speaking to Sky Sports study after full time, Manchester United legend Neville commented on the Dutch manager’s future.
“But Erik ten Hag will have to put the club in a position to challenge for the Champions League by Christmas, or else he will be in trouble.” he said
‘He knows it’.
The international break will give time to help the new players get some sleep, but the games will be fast and furious after that with Spurs and Aston Villa on the horizon.
