Former England coach Gareth Southgate announced this week that he will not return to training next year amid links with Man United.
Erik ten Hag’s role at the Manchester club is under threat due to the Red Devils’ poor start to the 2024/25 campaign, with the Dutch manager’s side currently 14th in the Premier League with just two seven wins.
There has been much talk that Ten Hag could lose his job during the international break, but it looks like the 54-year-old will be responsible for Manchester UnitedThe next game against Brentford.
Because of the friends Southgate has on the board at Old Trafford, the former England boss has been linked in the manager’s role at Old Trafford in recent months. However, the England manager killed them this week by claiming he will not be back in charge next year as he needs a break after the pressure of his latest role with the Three Lions.
At a European Club Association event in Athens, Southgate said via Sky Sports: “I won’t train next year, for sure. I’m sure of it.
“I have to give myself time to make good decisions. When you come out of a very important role, you have to give your body time, you have to give your mind time.”
