Dual Dual Champion French Open, Garcia announced on social media treatment and recovery from back injury prevents him from playing Madrid. Garcia, whose status for the WTA 1000 tournament next month in Rome is unsafe, said “its main goal is to achieve strong and healthy for Roland Garros.”

Grand Slam-Judy with clay begins on May 25 in Paris.

“After more back tests, it is clear that I will not be able to play in Madrid,” Garcia wrote in an Instagram post. “I need to take some time for treatment and healing. I will do whatever I can to be ready for Rome, but the main goal is to reach strong and healthy for Roland Garros.

“It is difficult to accept. After the break last year, I came back feeling happier, clearer and more motivated. The results were not there yet, but I really believed in the way I was.

31-year-old Garcia posted a 3-6 record this year and has not played since suffering a 6-2 loss, 7-5 in world no. 2 IgA Swiatek in Miami Open of last month.

Former World No.4 Garcia has not disputed a clay court match since the loss to Jaqueline Cristian in the first round of Paris Olympic Games in Roland Garros last July.
