Garcia, Barrios make weight for welterweight title fight

Ryan Garcia showed he is fully committed to welterweight by making the division limit comfortable ahead of his title challenge against Mario Barrios. Both fighters made weight in Las Vegas on Friday and cleared the final requirement for their scheduled championship bout this Saturday.

Barrios officially weighed in at 147 pounds, right on the welterweight limit, while Garcia came in lighter at 146.5 pounds. Neither fighter showed any visible problems on the scale, confirming that the fight will go ahead as planned with the WBC welterweight title on the line.

Garcia’s number has particular significance because it removes uncertainty about his ability to operate within the division’s championship boundary. His previous fights came at lower weights or contracted limits, leaving open questions about whether he would fully commit to welterweight for a title opportunity. Making weight without a fight closes that question for now.

Barrios, meanwhile, reached the limit as expected. He has already established himself at 147 pounds and enters the fight as the defending champion. His task now is to preserve his position against a challenger entering the division with greater commercial attention and offensive reputation.

The successful weigh-in finalizes the championship standings, leaving only the fight itself to determine whether Garcia’s move to welterweight yields immediate results or forces further adjustment.
