Ryan Garcia and Shakur Stevenson went on X today and traded insults about popularity. Shakur started the trash talk after a harmless post by Kingry, in which he quoted the late Roger Mayweather and said, “Most people don’t know shit about boxing.”
The wealth gap
Stevenson responded to Ryan’s message by saying, “Especially you.” It is unclear why WBC lightweight champion Shakur felt the need to mess with Garcia. Yet he may be bitter that he did not have the chance to fight in the past or about the massive $ 50 million fortune Garcia has accumulated over the past few years.
Stevenson missed the fighting in which Kingry was. What it shows is that winning world titles is not translated into the accumulation of wealth.
Ryan was given the opportunity to fight Gervonta Davis on April 22, 2023 and made $ 30 million out of that fight alone. Although Garcia lost to Tank with a seventh round, the fight led to clashes against Devin Haney and Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero, who upset him additional millions to make him one of the richest active boxers in the lower weight classes.

Garcia reminded Shakur that he was not popular, and fans did not get up to see how he was fighting. He says the free tickets issued for Stevenson’s fights do not count as part of ticket sales.
Instagram -followers speak loudly
Ryan then pointed out that no one outside Box knows who Stevenson is. In other words, he has no reach with non-fans. To emphasize the difference between the two, Kingry has 12 million Followers on Instagram, compared to Shakur’s 1.2 million.
What this means is that when Garcia fights on PPV, he has a better chance of bringing in purchases than Stevenson. With the way things look, Shakur has a lot of land to reach the level that Ryan is now.
The popularity competition
It is doubtful whether Stevenson’s potential fight against Theofimo Lopez will boost in January or February 2026 in the popularity or decline. Even if Stevenson wins, he may not get any new fans if he is waging the whole battle as against Edwin de Los Santos in their clash in November 2023.
