Tyson Fury says he will be “more focused” and serious for his rematch with Oleksandr Usyk on December 21, four weeks from now.
As Fury talks, he plans to outbox Usyk in the rematch rather than imposing his size and taking the fight to him. It’s a foolish plan.
In their previous fight on May 18, Fury successfully attacked Usyk with uppercuts and body shots in the first five rounds. Things went downhill in the sixth round when Usyk took the fight inside, nailing Fury with hooks around his guard and not letting him hold. On the inside, the aging Fury was helpless and took a lot of punishment.
Tyson’s road to victory
– Attack with non-stop pressure
– Fast pace
– Body slam
– Lubricate when possible
– Stay off the ropes
Unfortunately, Fury’s conditioning may prevent him from fighting hard enough to win. He looks like he was picked to come into the rematch with more weight. It would be fine if the weight was in muscle, but in this case it is fat.
If it’s Fury’s trainer, Sugarhill Steward’s simple strategy to defeat Usyk, he needs to fire him as soon as possible and get a good coach; with Fury’s enormous fortune of $140 million, he has enough money to hire the best trainer in the sport, who has great ideas.
Fury looks like he was power supply but fail to do enough resistance training to add muscle. Like many simpletons, Fury thinks he can become more powerful by eating, but he forgets the weight training needed to gain strength.
Fury, 36, played down his previous 12-round split decision loss to Usyk (22-0, 14 KOs), blaming it on him rolling around in the first half of their May 18 fight.
“I’m a side boxer, slide, slide, uppercut, hook. So, I’m going to do that, but more focused. Not so much (clowns with hands behind their backs like the first fight). A little more focused on the job, and that’s my path to victory,” said Tyson Fury TNT Sportsbox on his game plan for his rematch with Oleksandr Usyk in four weeks on December 21.
“I knew it was a close battle. I thought I had done enough. I’m not complaining. He got the win, and I was happy for him,” Fury said of his May 18 loss to Usyk.
