If Fury praises himself, the backup plan is a third fight with Usyk, and that’s not appealing. Fans have already seen Fury lose twice, and a trilogy would feel more like a fight that happens because there’s nothing else left.
“Nothing has been signed yet, but Tyson has indicated that if it is the right deal, he will definitely do it,” Warren said. Sky Sports News.
Turki has a decision
When Turki Alalshikh looks at this, he needs to consider name value and Fury’s recent form, because in real life failure is not rewarded. Repeated underperformance doesn’t get you a raise, and giving Fury top-tier money after three poor outings would set a bad example.
“I believe it will happen,” Warren added. “He may have a warm-up fight, but if that happens, it will be sometime in the late summer.”
Risk of another loss
An adjustment makes sense because Fury needs one to show fans he’s not done. But if Turki sets it up, there needs to be an escape clause because if Fury loses that fight, it would be pointless to continue with Joshua.
“When it does happen, I think it’s going to be massive,” Warren said.
For that tune-up, Fury doesn’t have to face a total unknown. He needs someone fans recognize who doesn’t pose much risk, and a fringe contender like David Adeleye fits that bill.
Anything less than Adeleye only reinforces what many already think, that Fury is being paid for what he did years ago, not what he is now.
