Fury vs. Usyk II: John Fury out of the corner

Tyson Fury’s trainer SugarHill Steward has revealed that John Fury will NOT be in his corner during Saturday night’s rematch against unified heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh.

Daddy rages out

DAZN reports that Papa Fury, John, will not be in Tyson’s corner during the fight. Some believe there were too many voices in Fury’s corner during his clash with unified champion Usyk (22-0, 14 KOs) earlier this year on May 18, which confused different voices giving instructions to the beleaguered ‘Gypsy King’ bark.

Having John in the corner wasn’t why Fury lost that fight, but he’s obviously a convenient scapegoat for the fans to blame why their hero fell short. Fury’s fans need someone to blame for their Viking falling out against Usyk because it will be too painful for them to admit that he simply wasn’t good enough.

How the fight went wouldn’t have made a difference if John Fury hadn’t helped. Sugarhill Steward had NO answers for Fury to deal with Usyk’s superior skills, movement and athletic ability.

Steward seemed to lose his composure when things started to go badly for the Gyspy King in round eight. Once Fury bloodied his mouth in the eighth round, SugarHill couldn’t help him. Tyson was on his own. His coach looked like he didn’t know what to do. John had the right idea. “Attack, attack and attack.”

from what i saw John was the only one who seemed to have some useful advice in the corner that night. If anything, Fury should have dumped his trainer, SugarHill and the other helpers, and kept Papa only for the rematch.

The things SugarHill Fury learned since joining him in 2019, such as the lean and roughhouse tactics, were useless against Usyk. He immediately neutralized that simple approach, leaving Fury with nothing else to fall back on.
