Fulton praises Foster – but what weight can he make now?

Stephen Fulton showed his class today and congratulated O’Shaquie Foster on his victory over him last Saturday night in their fight for the WBC interim lightweight title at the Frost Bank Center in San Antonio, Texas.

Fulton (23-2, 8 KOs) looked lost in the ring, stumbling around, missing punches and completely outmatched against Foster (24-3, 12 KOs). It was supposed to have been a competitive fight, but there was nothing about the fight that looked like an even fight.

Weight problem exposed

Fulton looked fat during the fight and showed him a stomach. If you look at his appearance, it is clear that he ate well during the camp.

Almost a Shutout

The scores were 118-110, 119-109 and 117-111. It could have been much wider than those scores as Foster appeared to win 11 of the 12 rounds. The only round Fulton fought well was the second. Other than that it was all O’Shaquie.

On social media, Fulton, 31, said he would “Better be back.” However, fans don’t know what he meant by that. He lacks the strength and speed to return to the 135-lb division, and 130 would be wrong for him as well.

Can Fulton return to 126?

What is concerning is that Fulton was unable to make the super featherweight limit, coming in two pounds short at 132 pounds. If he can’t make weight for that division, his hopes of returning to the 126-lb division are slim. He still holds the WBC featherweight title, and he will presumably return to defend it.

Fulton shows class in defeat

“Congratulations to Oshaq, had a great game plan and executed well. As for me, you guys already know I’ll be back and better! I always do,” commented Stephen Fulton XCongratulations to O’Shaquie Foster on his win over him last Saturday night in San Antonio, Texas.

Safer options at featherweight

If Fulton can somehow find a way to get back to 126, he should focus on fighting the easy hitting, slower guys like Carlos Castro, Nathaniel Collins and Joet Gonzalez. He is in his element against those types of fighters.

If you put Fulton with someone as good as Sulaiman Segawa, Mirco Cuello and Angelo Leo, he will probably lose. He should stay away from WBO champion Rafael Espinoza permanently. It would be a disaster for Fulton.
