Fulham staged a dramatic second-half comeback at Craven Cottage, overturning a deficit to beat struggling Burnley 3-1 in the Premier League.
Fulham secured a vital home win over relegation-threatened Burnley, boosted by inspired performances from Joshua King and Harry Wilson. This result significantly deepened the Clarets’ survival concerns.
Coming into the match, Fulham sat in 12th place, aiming to consolidate their position in mid-table. Meanwhile, 19th-placed Burnley were desperate for points to escape the Premier League’s relegation zone.
The first half was a cautious game. Both teams looked for openings, but did not have a decisive advantage. Chances were very slim, with defenses largely holding firm for the first 45 minutes.
Fulham claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them – possession being 55%. However, they struggled to convert it into clear cut opportunities. Burnley’s J. Laurent was shown a yellow card in the 37th minute for a foul.
Neither side found the breakthrough before the whistle. This led to the teams going into the break tied at 0-0. The interval promised a more open second half.
The second half erupted, but not in the way the Fulham fans wanted. Burnley’s Zian Flemming broke the deadlock in the 60th minute, firing past Bernd Leno. That crucial lead came against the run of play.
Fulham reacted quickly to go behind. Just seven minutes later, in the 67th minute, Joshua King leveled the scores, scoring from close range. His goal fired up the Craven Cottage faithful.
The spin was completed moments later. Harry Wilson guided Fulham into the lead in the 73rd minute, combining well with King to finish clinically. The Welsh international’s attack has given the local team control.
The closing stages saw more drama. Burnley’s J. Laurent received his second yellow card in the 93rd minute, reducing the visitors to ten men. His task of finding an equalizer became even more difficult.
Raul Jimenez then secured the points for Fulham in injury time. The Mexican forward calmly converted a penalty in the 95th minute. This marked a resounding 3-1 victory for the home side.
The stats underlined Fulham’s attacking prowess. They recorded an expected goals (xG) of 3.24 compared to Burnley’s 1.24. Fulham also managed 22 shots in total, with 6 on target.
This vital win lifted Fulham out of the relegation dogfight, consolidating their position in mid-table. For Burnley, the defeat was another major blow to their Premier League survival hopes in 19th place.
