Fujikura updates the Ventus TR Blue with VeloCore+ technology

It’s probably not a perfect description, but (in general) Fujikura’s Ventus TR profiles stand among the various models in the standard Ventus line. For example, the original TR Blue fit nicely between Ventus Blue and Ventus Black. It was stiffer at the top than the former, without being as low to boot as the latter.

Similarly, the TR Black fits somewhere between the original Ventus Black and a piece of armor, making it a squirrel hunter’s dream.

Yes, it was rough.

Anyway, I was a Ventus Black (regular, not TR) guy for a few seasons, but between age, injury and general lack of fitness, I’ve pretty much worked my way up to Ventus TR Blue. I’d suggest not getting old, but for what it’s worth, I’ve really enjoyed playing the original Ventus TR Blue.

It was only a matter of time

Fujikura launched the TR in 2022. Last year, it updated the Ventus line with the new VeloCore+ Blue before bringing out the VeloCore+ versions of the Ventus Black and Red.

Last year, the company introduced a lightweight option, Venus White. Given the timeline, you had to figure it was only a matter of time before the TR got the VeloCore+ treatment, and here we are.

Ventus TR Blue performance

Like the original Ventus TR Blue, the 2026 model is described as a mid-launch, low-revving profile. This last part simplifies the notion of a rigid top section. The VeloCore, the selling point of the original Ventus (and the key element missing from the OEM versions of the axle), is still an integral part of the Ventus TR design. A durability enhancer of sorts, VeloCore (and now VeloCore+ construction) offers what amounts to an MOI increase from the golf shaft. You get less spin when you lose the center of the face (not that you ever would), which results in tighter distribution and better ball speed retention.

The completely non-binding promise of the new TR Blue is improved power transfer that Fujikura says will deliver even tighter distribution and more speed. A key point that shouldn’t be lost in all of this is that whatever improvements Fujikura has made, they’ve gone out of their way not to mess with what works. Launch and spin characteristics should be remarkably similar to the original TR Blue.

If you liked the original TR Blue, there’s no reason to think you won’t like the TR Blue VeloCore+ even more.

Options, availability, price

Given the importance of fitment in the shaft world, it should come as no surprise that Fujikura will offer an impressive list of SKUs for the Ventus TR Blue VeloCore+. Options will be available from a 5R (50 grams, regular flex) though a 9X.

I don’t need the latter, but someone probably does.

Filed under “it is what it is,” Fujikura will keep its MSRP ($350) on the new shafts. Fujikura does not enforce MAP (Minimum Advertised Price) pricing, so street pricing is at the dealer’s discretion. Similarly, OEMs have some flexibility in upgrade pricing, but the need to keep margins what they are will most likely cost every penny.

If past is prologue, expect updated Ventus TR Black and TR Red profiles to follow in the coming months.

The Fujikura Ventus TR Blue VeloCore+ shaft will be available at retail starting January 9th.
