Francesco Bagnaia has reportedly signed his Aprilia contract, meaning he has officially turned down the 2027 Yamaha seat.

Yamaha Fabio Quattararo sought out Bagnia after his victory at Japanese rivals Honda, but the two-time MotoGP champion opted instead to take the Aprilia seat vacated by Jorge Martin.

Martin will now be fashioned as an A-list replacement for Quatrero, but it is unclear who will fill the second seat. Toprak Razgatlioglu is expected to stay at Pramak For a second year, Jack Miller didn’t do enough to promote and Alex Reigns’ tenure could be over in 2026.

Four years?! 😲 Did Pecco Bagnaia make the right decision for 2027?

Francesco Bagnaia’s Aprilia switch is another blow for Yamaha.

It has already been reported Bagnaya rejected a much larger contract offer from Yamaha. to sign for Aprilia. Meanwhile, Martin is expected to triple or quadruple his salary Signing for the Palo Pavesio team.

But this underlines a harsh reality: Yamaha now has only a checkbook to offer. It was enough to tempt Martin, though Bagnaya Aprilia, which sees it as a better bet for the 2027 regulations cycle, is a much smaller operation.

Years of struggle have clearly taken a toll on the Yamaha stock rider market. The switch to a V4 engine is meant to usher in a new era, but up until this point it has been a PR goal of its own.

The team, which had won 16 riders’ championships with the likes of Giacomo Agostini, Kenny Roberts and of course Valentino Rossi, now lost its rider and was challenged by a target of similar stature.

It wouldn’t be surprising if Martin soon regretted his decision, given Aprilia’s start to the season and its rebirth.

Yamaha are in advanced talks to sign Fabio Di Giannantonio.Who seems to have emerged as a top plan-b. But just like the other riders who have met in the seat next to Martin, the reality is that they won’t face any real competition.

Pecco Bagnaia has denied a partnership that will leave MotoGP fans speechless.

Had Bagnaia accepted Yamaha’s offer, he would have shared a garage with title rival Martin for the first time in 2023 and 2024. Saturday’s US GP Sprint finale was a reminder of just how dramatic the battle on the track can be.

Marc Marquez and Pedro Acosta will form the most exciting partnership on the grid next year – that much is guaranteed. But Bagnaya vs Martin would have been an almighty subplot.

For Yamaha, the 2027 rule changes seem like an opportunity to break out of their long rut, but clearly, riders don’t see it that way. Their sleep giant level is constantly weakening, with little faith that they will return to a higher level in the near future.
